Witchwardens

The Witchwardens are a powerful mage’s guild based out of Sasserine. Originally wedded strongly to the church of Pharasma, the Wardens have since grown more independent. Their mandate is to share arcane knowledge within their ranks and defend the city of Sasserine from both foreign and domestic enemies.

The Witchwardens are led by the High Warden, with responsibilities and authorities delegated from the High Warden to Red Dagger officers, and subsequently from Red Daggers to Black Dagger subordinates. On the whole the guild follows a structured hierarchy, but it is not generally authoritarian. Most of its members are free to pursue their goals as they wish with marginal interference from the group. The current High Warden of the Witchwardens is Bianka Altanish

The Witchwardens, in addition to functioning as the magical protectors of Sasserine and as an affiliation for magi in the city, also run a self contained arcane college within the walls of the Witchwarden Tower.

Benefits
Members of the Witchwardens use the TPA / CPA system and may purchase the following benefits (in addition to the standard benefits on page 54 of the Faction Guide).

1 TPA: When in the Witchwarden library, gain a +5 on Knowledge (arcana) checks. The check takes 1 hour, reflecting the need to reference the appropriate materials.

1 CPA: Transcribe any common spell of up to 7th level (spell from the Core Rule Book) from someone within the Witchwardens’ own library into your spellbook or alchemist formula book. This does not require a Spellcraft check or any additional transcribing costs.

5 TPA: Borrow a magic item from the Witchwardens’ collection for 1 week. The CPA cost is 1 per 1,000gp of the item’s market price. Increase this price by 1 if the item must travel far from Sasserine, by 1 if the use doesn’t further the interests of the guild, and by 1 if there is a significant risk of the item’s loss or destruction. The Witchwardens do not lend out charged items or items that are destroyed after use.

10 TPA: Acquire the White Dagger rank and white dagger badge.

10 TPA: 3 CPA: Hire a specialist* (an NPC whose level is equal to 1/2 of the PCs) for 1 week. This specialist is an arcane caster (bard, magus, wizard) who serves the PC faithfully. He does not sacrifice his life unless the mission is in direct defense of Sasserine.

15 TPA: 2CPA: Access a special section of the library for 1 week and gain a +10 bonus on any Knowledge check.

15 TPA: 2 CPA: Transcribe an uncommon or rare spell of up to 7th level (at GM’s discretion) from someone within the Witchwardens’ own library into your spellbook or alchemist formula book. This does not require a Spellcraft check or any additional transcribing costs.

15 TPA: 2+ CPA: Perform independent spell research to create a new spell. This research takes 1 week, and teh cost is 2 CPA per spell level of the new spell. This replaces the normal 1 week and 1,000gp per spell level cost listed on page 219 of the Core Rule Book.

15 TPA: 10 CPA: Hire a master specialist* (an NPC whose level is equal to the PCs) for 1 week. This specialist is an arcane caster (bard, magus, wizard) who serves the PC faithfully. He does not sacrifice his life unless the mission is in direct defense of Sasserine.

*Master specialists have a max level of 10th. For every two levels the PC has above 10th, the CPA cost is reduced by 1 (minimum 2)

20 TPA: 20 CPA: Acquire the Black Dagger rank and black dagger badge.
The black dagger is a +1 dagger attuned to the character. So long as they are holding the dagger, their caster level is increased by +1 (identical to and does not stack with an orange prism ioun stone). In addition, they may choose one school of magic and gain a +1 bonus on caster level checks, DCs and saving throws involving that school. They may gain this benefit more than once, acquiring a new school of magic each time.

20 TPA: 3 CPA: Hire a squad of 10 1st level magi bodyguards for 1 week.

50 TPA: 50 CPA, Red Dagger: Acquire the Red Dagger rank and red dagger badge.
The red dagger is a +3 dagger attuned to the character. So long as they are holding the dagger, their caster level is increased by +2 (similar to and does not stack with an orange prism ioun stone). In addition, they may choose one school of magic and gain a +2 bonus on caster level checks, DCs and saving throws involving that school. They may gain this benefit more than once, acquiring a new school of magic each time. In addition, the Red Dagger gains the services of a Black Dagger (a wizard, bard or magi of 1/2 the PC’s level) who serves him in whatever capacity the Red Dagger requires.
